Denmark: ”Team DS a.m.b.a., Denmark, accepts fine for price coordination and information exchange”

21. August 2019

On 6 August 2019, the Danish association of camera distributors Team DS a.m.b.a. accepted to pay a fine of DKK 1,300,000 (€ 174,300) for coordination of prices and information exchange between the members of the association. A member of the management has accepted to pay a fine of DKK 100,000 (€ 13,400).

Team DS is a nationwide voluntary chain which is established by a number of independent camera distributors (the members of the Team DS), who are mutual competitors.

The size of the fine to Team DS reflects in particular the association’s ability to pay and solidity. In addition, a concrete assessment of the quite special circumstances of Team DS has been made.

In 2017, the Danish Competition Council decided that Team DS has used price coordination and exchange of information about prices and other competition parameters concerning the sale of cameras and accessories hereto, in order to limit the competition that would otherwise have taken place between the members of Team DS. The Danish Competition Appeal Tribunal later upheld the decision from the Competition Council.

Most of the members of Team DS are camera distributors from the chain PhotoCare. The rest of the members are respectively independent distributors and members of the chain Japan Photo.
